BRENDA CHAPMAN

A graduate of the University of Texas and Baylor Law School, Judge Brenda Chapman returned to New Braunfels in 1992 to begin her legal career. Partnering with her father Marion “Jack” Borchers, the general practice focused on Family Law, Real Estate, Probate, Criminal Law and representation of local business entities.

Shortly after returning home to New Braunfels, Ms. Chapman was asked to join the board of Homespun Early Childhood Intervention, where she served two terms including a year as treasurer and a year as president. Thus began a life of public service, both professionally and personally.

Ms. Chapman was elected to the New Braunfels City Council in 1994 and served until 1997. In 1998, she was elected County Court at Law Judge where she served two terms, retiring in 2006. Her bench was one of general jurisdiction including civil, criminal, probate, guardianship, family law, juvenile, and condemnation. Judge Chapman continues her judicial career sitting as a visiting judge in both state and county courts in both the 3rd and 4th Judicial Regions. Her years on the bench also included four years chairing the Comal County Juvenile Board and one year as the President of the Texas Association of County Court at Law Judges. She is also a past President of the Comal County Bar Association and has been honored as an Outstanding Alumna of New Braunfels High School.

In 2001, Judge Chapman joined the board of St. Jude’s Ranch for Children and served two terms including two years as President. She was a founding member of the St. Jude’s Ranch for Children Charitable Foundation where she served until 2017. She has co-chaired the SJRC Wurstfest booth for 20 years and has organized fundraising galas for the Ranch.

Judge Chapman accepted an appointment to the Comal County Habitat for Humanity Board in 2010 and served for six years including one year as President. She has chaired its annual fundraiser for five years and has donated her husband Dan, a patent attorney, as a permanent volunteer for the Saturday building crew.

Judge Chapman currently serves as a Trustee of the New Braunfels Area Community Foundation and is the treasurer for BIG of New Braunfels, a ladies investment club. In her spare time, she serves as crew chief and logistics director for her husband’s vintage car racing team.
